Why are these people waiting in line?!?!?

Okay, it's not a great photo but I'm sure you can see the tents and people standing in line. These are just a few of about 50 people in line. To what you ask. Maybe a concert? An early bird sale? Free puppies? No, No, and No. These people are waiting in line to register their kids for kindergarten. Public kindergaten no less. See here in San Mateo we have 16 elementary schools. You are suppose to register your child in your neighborhood school then if you want you can choose to transfer to any of the other schools. The transfers all work by a lottery system and you have between Feb. 1 and April something to do this. So if anybody out there can figure out why these people would camp out over night to register their kid let me know. This isn't the way college is going to be is it?!?!?!

Yikes! What time was that??? That's just nutty. I fill out a slip sent home in Ryan's backpack and that's it!

I wouldn't have the ambition to wait in line. Ryan would have to be home schooled....lol!

I guess I should have mentioned the time this was at 6:30 pm and the doors don't open till 7 am this morning. I'm sure they starting getting in line as soon as school let out.

Trust me after touring some of the schools in our area I was thinking of home schooling and if she doesn't get into one of our choice schools that might be the case. (my poor kids)

So ridiculous....all the elementaries should be comparable in one district. It doesn't even make sense. I can reccommend a really GREAT district in Michigan!
Home schooling would be really hard, but I know some people that can get whatever materials you may need!
